Take This Quiz To Find Out If Your Child Is Ready For Preschool

Take This Quiz To Find Out If Your Child Is Ready For Preschool Is your child somewhat independent and capable of following basic directions? These are two signs that can signal your child is ready to start preschool. The average child starts preschool around 2 ½ years old, but it’s important to keep in mind that every child develops at a different pace. That’s why age shouldn’t be the only factor you use to determine when to enroll your child in preschool.

Preschool provides so many lifelong benefits to kids, but that doesn’t always mean the sooner you enroll them the better. The best time to enroll your toddler in preschool is when they are truly ready to experience it and soak it all up like a sponge. This quiz can help you decide if it’s time to purchase a backpack and send your toddler off to preschool, or if perhaps it’s best to wait a few more months.

Is Your Child Is Ready For Preschool?

#1. Is your Child Potty-Trained?

A certain level of independence is important for preschoolers. That includes being able to go to the bathroom without hands-on help from an adult.

#2. Is Your Child Somewhat Independent?

Aside from potty training, there are other ways your child asserts his or her growing independence. Such as washing their own hands after playing with mud or paint, putting on their shoes, or taking a nap because they are tired and not because they were told to. This little signs of maturity hint that it might be time to consider enrolling your child in preschool.

#3. Has Your Child Spent Time Away From You?

If the first time you and your child separate for an extended period of time is the moment you drop them off for their first day of preschool, it might come as an unpleasant shock to your child. Try sending your child off to Grandma and Grandpa’s for the weekend, or have them sleep over at a friend’s house. This gets them used to spending time away from you, better preparing them for the separation that comes with preschool.

#4. Does Your Child Work On Puzzles Or Art Projects Independently?

If your child regularly becomes engrossed in puzzles or art projects, they are going to do just fine in a preschool environment. The ability to use basic supplies to independently accomplish something is important.

#5. Is Your Child Able To Follow Simple Directions?

The ability to comprehend and adhere to at least one or two simple directions is key to excelling in preschool. If the teacher asks students to bark like a dog, grab a notebook, or go outside and get in a single file line, will your child be able to comply?

#6. Is Your Child Good At Sharing And Taking Turns?

Preschool facilitates the perfect environment for children to learn the importance of taking turns and sharing in order to make friends. It’s certainly not necessary, but it always helps when children have some understanding of these concepts before their first day.

#7. Is Your Child Ready To Interact With Group Activities?

There are many group-based activities in preschool, offering kids the chance to interact and work together as a team to accomplish a singular goal. This is great for your child’s development, but until a certain age many children are not yet ready to socially interact at this level.

#8. Is Your Child Used To Being On A Regular Schedule?

Preschool is all about a scheduled routine. Children are more at ease when they can count on a set schedule. Prior to starting preschool, try putting your child on a more regimented schedule and see how they do.

#9. Does Your Child Have The Physical Stamina For Preschool?
